Shadow Play
A story of light and shadow
This scenography, which brings together theatre and cinema, stems from Lucion's passion for paper art, shadow theatre and storytelling.

Since 2012, Lucion has been working with light and shadow theatres contained inside vinyl spheres in an installation called moonGARDEN. Since its creation, more than 1 million people have been dazzled by these luminous shadows. That's where the idea came from to take them out of the spheres, expose them to the light, combine them with LEDs and micro-mapping and tell a story with them.

Shadow Play was presented for the first time in Shanghai at the Museum of Modern Art on 25 January 2018. For this performance, Lucion recreated the city of Shanghai with its parks, bridges, buildings, but this installation is completely customisable. This is a glimpse of how Lucion could, through this interactive volumetric cinema, transform a garden, a lobby, a public space into a story.

The show lasts 5 minutes and is followed by 20 minutes of interactivity in which the audience is invited, using the light from their mobile phone, to come and discover the sounds of the city. The set is then transformed into a giant garden of cut-outs, and the audience can re-enact moments from the film and listen to the sounds of the city.
These two parts will appeal to all audiences, from the most contemplative to the most active.
